Through the study of tap dancers learn to use their feet as a rhythm instrument. The footwork helps to develop agility, musicality, (including syncopation) and improv.
Intermediate/Advanced: Saturday 9:30-10:30. This class is geared towards students who have strong technique, and an understanding of tap musicality. This class further explores interpretation, and improvisation. Students will develop personal style and expression as they continue to grow as tap artists.
Pre K 4/ Kindergarten (CM II and PB I) Saturday 10:30-11:30 AM Dancers will learn basic tap skills and terminology. Fundamentals such as balance and general alignment are introduced at this level.
1st and 2nd Grade (PBII and Elm I) Saturday 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Dancers are taught to add sounds to the basic tap steps. Musicality is stressed while teaching the student to count their sounds between the beats to create more complex rhythms
3rd, 4th and 5th Grades ELM II, III, IV Saturday 12:30-1:30 PM More intricate variations are added at this level. As the complexity of the steps increases, it is necessary for the student to focus on body alignment to maintain balance and build strength.
Dance clothing and shoes
Tap shoes: are required. Students may borrow from ADT or even wear sneakers if they are initially unsure.
Clothing: can be leotards and tights or leggings and t-shirts
