Ruth Wiesen has served the Armour Dance Theater (ADT) as its Executive Director and Artistic Director for the past 20 years. Through her visionary leadership, the organization has grown in its scope and reach. Wiesen founded the Scholarship Program in 1988, and the first Community Program site was founded in 2000. Given the exponential growth of the Armour Dance Theater, the roles of Executive Director and Artistic Director will be split. Ruth will retain the leadership role of Artistic Director.
Assuming the role of Executive Director will be Camila Gil, a graduate of the University of Miami who currently serves the Armour Dance Theater as Chief of Arts Education. Camila Gil trained at ADT since she was 13 as a part of the Scholarship Program and participated in the Nutcracker and Summer in New York Program.
In her current role, Camila has been responsible for the expansion of the Community Programs, which has received funding from the Children’s Trust since 2014. Armour Dance Theatre added academics, nutrition, parenting, and social-emotional learning components to their dance program which serves over 600 children receiving a scholarship. In addition, Camila established organizational policies and procedures as the organization went from 12 employees to over 40. Camila also serves as a member of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Emerging Leaders Committee.
Camila’s goals include expanding the number of Community Program sites. increasing visibility, funding, and organizational growth while maintaining the Armour Dance Theatre’s culture of prioritizing the well-being of students to ensure a successful life.
As a result of this strategic transition of leadership roles, the Armour Dance Theater is positioned to continue its growth, improve artistic quality, and have an even greater impact on the community.
